Bringing Pride To a Little Boys Face

The other day while Kiera was at school Ethan and I did a little spring planting. The weather is still chilly but the sun keeps showing up in between snow and rain and it warms things back up making me antsy for springtime. So to hurry Spring along we did a mini indoor starter garden.

I got 6 paper cups, some potting soil I had on hand, and some garden seeds I held onto from last year. We labeled each cup with what we planted and how many seeds we put in. Now we just have to wait and see. I always love the look on the kid's faces when they discover the tiny green leaves peeking up through the dirt. I think it gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride that they did something special.
What have you been doing lately to bring springtime inside?

Current Project Progress Reveal

So, no guesses as to what I have been working on. Commenting has really slowed down around here! I miss hearing from everyone. I had hundreds of hits on my silhouette project but I think only 3 or 4 people actually left a comment. Please let me know your are still out there. 'Nuff said.

I wanted to show you what it is I have been working on. I am soooo excited about how it is coming along. It makes me smile seeing it slowly come together. Here are a couple "in progress" shots.

It is going to be sooo cute! It is a comforter for Kiera's bed. Every block is appliqued. I free handed the block designs from a picture I got off the internet of a 44"x?" quilt. I did some math and figured out how to make the dimensions work for a twin comforter, and went for it. There are hearts, stars, flowers, x's and spirals for the o's, and then a block that says hugs, and one that says kisses. The border is a flowery fabric that has all 6 colors to tie it together and then I am doing the binding in dark purple. I love it! It is a TON of work, but with what I've seen so far, I believe it all will be worth it.

A new project in the works!

I just started a project yesterday. I've had the materials for it for over a year! Crazy huh? I am so excited to show you all. I'll give you a clue...
It's big, bright, and it is something to go in the girl's room to match the silhouette project I did recently. It is actually what I based the silhouette's off of even though I hadn't made it yet. Any guesses?

Past Two Weeks Photo Recap

I don't have a whole lot of time to sit and write out a detailed post so I thought I'd at least post the pictures I have taken recently from Ethan's birthday celebration, a visit from Grandma Tutu and Aunt Kayla and a random one here and there.

Grandma and Grandpa Glenn came up for a visit for Uncle Steven's birthday the weather was great and we went out one morning for some scooter and mountain board fun. Even Grandpa got in on the fun!

Our local Plant Farm had a Chalk Play day to celebrate the coming of spring. They provided the chalk and we did the rest. It was free and the kids LOVED it. I didn't get any pictures of me but I did get some of Aunt Kayla. Grandma and Emma stayed home where it was warm and cozy. Thanks mom!

We celebrated Ethan's birthday this past weekend while Grandma Tutu and Aunt Kayla were here. The cake was still great even when we didn't wait
long enough for the trick candles to work.

No this is not me. This is my sister Kayla.
We are told all the time that we look alike

Just a random picture I took today.
Emma is about to walk now and she is such a tease these days.
Lovin' that toothy grin!

Ethan's Birthday Cake

Ethan turns 4 this week! I can't believe it! He is growing up into quite the little man. This weekend I made his cake that we'll be using to celebrate this week when Grandma Tutu and Aunt Kayla come up for a visit. I love how it turned out! Here are a couple pics of it while it is still intact :)

I had a lot of fun creating it and love the little road signs. Those, the platform Lighning McQueen is sitting on, and the road are all made out of construction paper. The clouds are mini marshmallows that I cut in half and stuck on. All the frosting is butter-cream, and the center of the cake is in 3 layers (two chocolate, and one confetti cake). I will try to get a picture of it cut open but can't make any promises.

Silhouette Project Completed!

It has been fun working on these silhouettes this past week and a half. I was able to get a composition for Kiera's silhouette to work. Braids just weren't looking right in a silhouette form so I ended up going with the ponytail. Here are the completed canvases of the three kids.
The canvases sat for a few days while I worked out the rest of my plan (where were they going to hang? Should they be separate above each child's bed? Should I put them somewhere on the upstairs landing? I wasn't sure whether to do a couples silhouette of Dan and I or if I should do something else. Finally I had an AH HA moment and decided on a heart. And all 4 would go in Kiera's room.
Today I finished and hung the project. I was originally thinking I was going to arrange them in a square formation with two on top and two on bottom but as I hammered in the nails it transformed and I like it much better!
I did the heart today and as soon as that was dry I HAD to get them up on the wall!
I am so excited because it just so happens that the colors I used are the same ones in the quilts I am planning for Kiera's and Emma's beds! Lucky how that happened! One of these day the kid's rooms will be decorated. Ethan is jealous now so I will be starting a project for his room next. Something to do with Cars and Trucks. Fun Fun!

Latest Project Sneek Peek

Here's a Sneek Peek at my latest project. I can't wait to show you when it is all done. I am definitely learning as I go on this one. I am sort of winging it. I have an idea where the completed project will end up but I keep going back and forth on a couple spots upstairs. I would have three to show you but I want to get a different silhouette shot of Kiera. The one I took last night is not giving me the right composition on the canvas. Mostly with how her hair was done... I guess, it could be just me too.
