Turn Off The Flash

Today I was inspired to do a photo shoot with the kids. And it just so happens to be the beginning of a new month so what better time. I love taking pictures of my children regardless, but today was different.
I was looking at an ad from Deseret Book for a book called "A Mother's Book of Secrets: Keys to Making Motherhood Memorable, Meaningful, and Magnificent" by Linda J. Eyre and Shawni Eyre Pothier. I got curious, and after a little bit of digging I found out that one of the authors of the book had taken all the pictures for her book. She did an interview with someone and gave a couple tips on how to take good pictures. I decided to give it a go.

Well what do you think?

Pretty good eh? I don't think I did too bad. It also didn't hurt that my children were happy and willing to play along.  The best advice was to turn off the flash and to take pictures even if they didn't look at the camera. I will be taking many more I am sure!

You did a great job! The natural lighting is so much better, I think. I always shoot without the flash, or use the big attachment one and point it at the ceiling. Keep trying the weird angles, they'll surprise you. I like not having pictures where the kids are looking, they aren't so posed and you can get a fun look. Remind me to explain the tic-tac-toe to you in regards to pictures, if you don't already know about that...

Turning off the flash is almost always a really good plan...the natural light in most of these is lovely...
