Painted Windows for Halloween

One of our family traditions we started a couple years ago was to paint scenes on the widows for the different holidays. The tradition started with Dan's mother Shellie I think. I love it, and the kids really enjoy seeing the paint on the windows. One day when they are a little older I might let them help me paint, but this year the sound of tempera paint and freshly cleaned carpets didn't sound like all that fun to me.

I bought the jars of powdered tempera paints a couple years ago and have hardly made a dent in them. I love the idea of the powder because I can mix them with water when I need them and don't have to worry about old poster paints drying out on me. They should last for many more years.

For the window paintings I sketch out the picture first with an grease pencil made specifically for glass. It breaks a lot if I don't take it easy. I tend to push harder than needed I guess. Then I just mix up the colors so they aren't too runny and fill in the picture like I would a coloring book page.

Last year I skimped out and didn't do anything but the year before I did Winnie The Pooh dressed up in a bumble bee costume. I didn't like the really thick black lines, so this year I just left the grease pencil alone.

This year I decided to go with Mickey mouse. What do you think?

I am thinking that I might do something in the window pane next to it but don't know if I'll get around to it.

But until then I am enjoying my fall Mums on the front porch. Aren't they lovely?
